Our Top Three Things to Do in El Paso

There’s a lot of things to do in El Paso—so much, in fact, that it’s easy to get lost in it all. To simplify things a bit, we’ve put together our top three favorite activities to share with you.

So here it is: the top three things to do in El Paso, Crawford Buick GMC Edition:

  1. One of our favorite places at El Paso is the Hueco Tanks State Historic Site. It spans for more than 860 acres and features large rock basins—“huecos”—that have supplied water to the desert-like region for centuries. Rock climbing, hiking, bird watching, studying nature, and picnicking are just a few of the activities to enjoy!
  2. If you’ve got kids, you’ll definitely want to stop by Bob-O’s Family Fun Center at least once to have an unforgettable family time. There’s bumper boats, go-karts, arcade games, and laser tag—the kids will love it!
  3. The El Paso Plaza Theater is one of the best places to enjoy a concert or theater performance. From the lobby and the patio room to the performance hall and the salon, the Plaza Theater features dazzlingly beautiful construction and a vibrant atmosphere that can make any concert or musical a memorable experience.

The Canyon Delivers the Best of Both Worlds

By now, we’re sure that you have heard that GMC has a new midsize pickup on the horizon. The 2015 GMC Canyon was built to show you that good things really do come in small packages. Although the Canyon will be the little sister of the Sierra, the Canyon packs many features that will help you with work or adventure.

First up, the GMC Canyon is powered by your choice of a 2.5-liter I-4 engine or a more powerful 3.6-liter V6. In 2015, the Canyon will also be available with a 2.8-liter Duramax® turbo-diesel engine for even more power and torque. With a smaller engine size than its big sister, the Canyon delivers great fuel efficiency which puts a little extra money in your wallet.

Many drivers don’t need the capability of a full size pickup. Instead, drivers prefer something smaller and easier to navigate. That’s where the Canyon comes in! The Canyon delivers the best of both worlds. With a smaller stance, the GMC Canyon can fit in almost any garage. It also has a great turning radius of only 41 feet.

The team here at Crawford Buick GMC cannot wait to see what this midsize pickup has in store! It will be available on our lot sometime this fall, but if you would like to know more now give us a ring at (915) 778-7781 or stop by GMC’s website for a full workup!

National Heatstroke Prevention Day

National Heat Stroke Prevention DayToday, July 31st, is National Heatstroke Prevention Day and our hope is to ensure that no child gets left unattended in a hot vehicle. In recent months, there have been more and more incidents reported in which children are left in a car on a hot day.

Many parents don’t believe that this terrible accident could happen to them, but it has happened to even the most unsuspecting guardians. One child climbed into the family’s car by himself on a hot day and fell asleep which is just one instance of a child being left unintentionally and unknowingly.

Here are some facts about leaving a child unattended in a car:

  • The temperature inside a car can rise up to 140+ degrees on a hot day.
  • A child’s body temperature heats up to five times faster than that of an adult.
  • Heatstroke cases have been reported 11 months out of the year in all 50 states.

Now that you know some facts about leaving your child in a hot car, vow to take a pledge to make sure that this never happens to you or your family. When driving a car with a child passenger, place your cell phone, purse, or wallet in the back seat with them. This will set as a reminder that your child is back there. A smart kid from Tennessee, Andrew Pelham, even came up with a rubber band device that will help remind drivers that there is a child on board viagra luxembourg.

From the team here at Crawford Buick GMC, we want you to stay safe this summer! Please take a second to check your backseat every time you exit your vehicle.

Did you know that only 22% of Americans still used printed maps? Instead, many rely on a GPS or smartphone to navigate to their destination. If you are one of those people who would rather use a handheld device, a new Buick would be a great addition to your family.  Most 2015 Buick models will be equipped with 4G LTE built in wi-fi technology so you will be able to navigate more efficiently while out on the road.  The addition of 4G LTE is also great for keeping your passengers occupied during long commutes. Your family will be able to surf the web, stream movies, and download new music using 4G LTE through OnStar.

Another reason why a Buick is a perfect pick for road trippers is because of its advanced comfort and luxury. Buicks are known for their excellent legroom and personalized touch. If you would like to see why Buicks are built for road trips, stop by Crawford Buick GMC in El Paso, Texas. We’re sure once you experience an all-new Buick for yourself, you will make it your next family vehicle.

Fun Road Trip Games

Fun Road Trip GamesHeading out for your annual family vacation? Check out these fun road trip games that will help time pass faster as you make your 8 hour trip to your destination. Keep your kids engaged and get them talking with an easy in-car game.

  1. Find the Vehicle/License Plate – You can play this game by having one person name a vehicle or state. The person who spots the specific vehicle or state license plate gets a point. The first person to 10 points is the winner! You can make it a bit more challenging by naming off more exotic makes and models.
  2. Who Am I? – Have one person in the car think of someone who everyone in the car knows. This can range from a celebrity to a family friend. The person will then give off random clues and the others in the car have to guess the identity. The first one to guess correctly gets a point.
  3. Slug Bug / Banana Game – Yellow vehicles and/or VW beetles earn points. The first one to 10 points is the winner!

No matter what game you decide to play on your family adventure, remember to keep it casual and simple. You don’t want to cause conflict among your children. Electronic devices like laptops or DVD players can also help pass the time, but family engagement is something that will stick with your children for years to come!

Improve Your Driving, Improve Your Fuel Saving

fuel savingA common misconception about fuel economy is that the EPA-rated mpg is the mpg you get. But in a real world scenario, your fuel saving is more dependent on driving style than any other factor, including the EPA rating.

For example, taking longer distances to brake and accelerate will not only help improve fuel economy by as much as 33 percent but also reduce tire and brake wear. It’ll even make you a safer, better driver!

Additionally, doing something as simple as managing the air conditioning can have amazing advantages. Turning the A/C off at low speeds in favor of rolling down the windows can reduce the strain on the engine, while turning it back on at high speeds and closing the windows will lower air resistance. Doing both can increase fuel saving by as much as 15 percent.

Of course, it does help to have a vehicle with higher mileage, like the Buick Encore that gets 33 mpg on the highway, to begin with—that makes all of these percentages even more valuable! Let us know how much fuel you saved at Crawford Buick GMC!

Do you use your truck for work? Do you need to be able to haul some serious weight? If you answered “Yes” to either of these questions, we have just the truck for you! According to the new industry-wide SAE J2807 calculations, the Sierra has the ability to tow up to 12,000 lbs. This says a lot about the Sierra’s ability to tow. Before the new calculations were introduced, most trucks had a higher max tow rating. After the new calculations, most trucks lost some serious poundage. The Sierra 1500, however, was one of the only trucks that did not.

The 12,000 lb. rating is specifically for the double cab two-wheel drive, 6.2-liter V8 version of the Sierra 1500. It is also important to note that this engine is the most powerful available in the light-duty segment and offers an astounding 420-horsepower and 460-lb-ft of torque. It also features EcoTec3 technology making it more efficient while keeping up with performance needs.

Avoid Driving Through These Cities This Summer

avoid driving through these citiesAre you a recent grad who is planning on taking a nice long road trip this summer? Are you headed out for a family vacation across the country? Whether you’re headed to the beach or big city this summer, there are definitely some places you should try to avoid driving through to save yourself from a big headache. TomTom navigation recently studied some of the most congested areas across the U.S. and you may be surprised (or not) by their findings.

If you are headed out to unwind and relax, TomTom recommends avoiding the following cities and their jam-packed interstates.

  1. Los Angeles. California is beautiful, but you don’t have to go to LA to experience everything that the great state has to offer. Drivers who work in the big city spend an average of 39 minutes of their 1 hour commute stuck in traffic. This is definitely something you would want to avoid on a family vacation.
  2. San Francisco. Another popular California destination known for the golden gate bridge and gorgeous skyline, this city surely attracts city-dwellers and tourists alike. If you’re driving through expect a 32-percent delay.
  3. Honolulu. This may surprise you, but even paradise has its downfalls. Since there are only a few highways on the island, drivers can expect big delays especially during rush hour. If you are planning a vacation to the island and plan on renting a car, explore alternate routes to avoid a major headache.
  4. Seattle. This city is up 2-percent from last year. The average driver complains of spending 27-percent of their one-hour drive waiting in traffic.

Have you experienced any of these cities and their ridiculous traffic jams? What is the worst city you have ever driven through? Let us know what you think below! Happy Travels from Crawford Buick GMC!

Buick Targets Younger Crowd with Vine and YouTube

Buick Targets Younger Crowd
2014 Buick Regal GS

Buick has been considered the brand of choice for elderly buyers for many, many years. Buick is hanging up their grandpa-car hat, and taking on a new role. With a changing product mix that includes a turbocharged sports sedan and a compact crossover, Buick is taking on the younger crowd. To enhance their efforts, Buick is taking on a new social media campaign aimed at millennials.

Buick has employed Zach King, a trick cinematographer, to create a series of six-second basketball-themed Vine videos featuring mind-bending effects such as King himself transforming into Dick Vitale, or a car hood shooting a ball with help from the trunk lid.

Buick has also taken the opportunity to create several YouTube videos. Partnering with music producer Kurt Hugo Schneider, a video was created featuring a Regal GS and millennials dribbling basketballs, slamming car doors and revving the turbo engine. Another video starring the Regal features a song by the internet comedy and advertising team Rhett & Link, mocking the nation’s cellphone-obsessed culture.

These projects are a chance for Buick to capitalize on the large followings of online entertainers and to showcase the brand’s updated lineup to younger consumers in a place they are actually looking.

“We’re a brand that’s very approachable and stylish and luxurious, but also isn’t afraid to be unabashed about ourselves and who we are,” says Sandra Moore, Buick’s marketing director in an article. “So you always see a little bit of humor in a lot of our spots.”

What do you think about Buick’s shift to appeal to a larger, younger customer base?
