El Paso Missing Dog Was Found in Baltimore–Thanks to a Microchip

dogs in a carMany dog owners know about microchips, which can be implanted safely under your pooches skin and can help those who find stray dogs to contact their owners. However–few expect to receive their dog back from a destination that’s nearly 2,000 miles away.

But that’s exactly what happened to an El Paso family whose dog, Stinger, was returned to them after being discovered in Baltimore–yes, Baltimore, Maryland. An animal rescue organization in Baltimore found the dog, and upon inspecting his microchip, realized he belonged with a family all the way out in Texas.

The biggest question of all still remains: How did Stinger get all the way to Baltimore? No one knows, and we probably never will. Stinger’s rescue is a true mystery. If he didn’t have a microchip, it’s hard to imagine how he ever would have made it home.

This miraculous El Paso missing dog story has us sold on microchips. What about you?

Tips on Buying a New or Used Car

used car lotIn order to prepare you for buying a new or used car, we have created a small guide of tips that will give you insight into what to do before you make the big decision. There are different benefits to buying a new or used car, and there are multiple ways to finance a car in various credit situations. There are a lot of factors that go into buying a car and we’re here to help.

  1. Know Your Credit Score: Knowing what type of credit you have will allow you to walk into a dealership and realistically know what type of offers you potentially qualify for. YoungMoney advises to check your credit score with these three bureaus: Experian, Equifax and TransUnion .
  2. Create a Budget: It’s important to know what kind of budget you have when it comes to buying a car. In different situations, buying a used car might be your best bet, in others; you could qualify for a better offer when buying a new car. If you have a lower credit score, purchasing a great used car could be a key step in helping to repair your credit.
  3. Do Your Research: It’s important to do some research before coming into a dealership. This will help you pinpoint what you’re looking for and, in turn, will make it easier for you to relay that information to your sales person.
  4. Bring Your Documents: If you’re serious about purchasing a car, it’s important to bring the proper documents with you. Be prepared with a recent pay stub, recent bill, driver’s license, and personal references (shoot for three).
  5. Look for Added Bonuses/Options: We offer discounts for recent college grads and military members and lots of others. If you’re not sure if you qualify for extra discounts, look online or simply ask your salesperson. Finding additional bonuses like these could definitely help when buying a new car. Also looking at other options like leasing, using a co-signer, or being a first-time buyer could all help you in the process of buying a car.

The most important step in buying a car, whether it is new or used, is to ask as many questions as possible. Don’t be afraid to go overboard when it comes to research because after all, you’re making a large, lifetime purchase. For additional information on what you can do before you decide to buy, give us a call at Crawford Buick GMC.

Border Patrol Testing Body Cameras

roadThe United States Border Patrol is taking part in a 90-day testing period for body cameras in areas including Texas, New Mexico, Florida, Michigan, and Washington. The testing period comes after a long list of complaints about use of force against illegal immigrants.

“The Border Patrol anticipates the use of this equipment will also allow our community members to have more insight as to what our agents do on a daily basis and what challenges they face,” the US Customs and Border Protection agency told ABC-7.

After the test, the agency plans to analyze legal, privacy, and policy issues that arise. The cameras work for around four to six hours and can be worn on the head or chest. After an initial review of cases involving force and misconduct by agents and inspectors since 2009, new internal affairs head Mark Morgan found 155 that merited further investigations.

Vicki Gaueca, director of the American Civil Liberties Union of New Mexico Regional Center for Border Rights welcomes the use of body cameras. “[The cameras] will help protect abuse victims, and if used appropriately these cameras will help ensure that CBP’s interaction with community members is fair and lawful.”

We at Crawford Buick GMC hope this approach will make law enforcement safer and fairer for everyone.

It’s that special time of year—Valentine’s Day—when you have the chance to show your sweetheart how much you care. If your special someone loves car almost as much as they love you, here are some great suggestions for Valentine’s gifts for car lovers.

  • Get the vehicle detailed. Remember what it was like driving your car when it was brand new? Give your sweetie that feeling again by having his or her car detailed.
  • Upgrade the speakers. If your significant other is picky about how things sound, consider getting some upgraded speakers or even a brand new sound system.
  • Replace the windshield. Does your partner suffer from having to stare at a chipped or cracked windshield every day? If so, surprise them with a new, chip-free windshield.
  • Satellite radio subscription. For only $199, you can get a year’s subscription to SiriusXM satellite radio. You can then enjoy listening to your favorite music commercial-free wherever you’re in the car together.
  • Plan a road trip. If spending time in the car is where your loved one feels happiest, plan a road trip and you’ll be spending plenty of time behind the wheel. You could even make it a little more fun and rent an exotic car that he or she has always loved.
