While we’ll admit that some in-car voice recognition systems can be downright frustrating to use, there are certainly plenty of options that actually work really well. According to a recent study by AAA Foundation for Safety and Edmunds, the Chevrolet Equinox and Buick Lacrosse offer the best in-car voice recognition software for model year 2015 vehicles.
The testing took into account ten different voice-recognition systems in 2015 model year cars, ranking each one by how distracting it is. The software in the Chevrolet Equinox and Buick Lacrosse were ranked as the two least-distracting voice command systems.
Safety experts agree that distracting voice command systems can pose a serious problem on our streets.
“The lasting effects of mental distraction pose a hidden and pervasive danger that would likely come as a surprise to most drivers,” said Peter Kissinger, president and CEO of the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety. “The results indicate that motorists could miss stop signs, pedestrians, and other vehicles while the mind is readjusting to the task of driving.”

We’ve all probably seen it on the news–a frenzied parent out of his/her routine who accidentally leaves a child in a hot vehicle.
Recently, one Boston dad left his one-year-old daughter in the car at the train station. “The baby had fallen asleep in the child seat and I went into auto pilot. I had what I thought was a safe-guard procedure against this in place…” said the dad. Thankfully, the father remembered while on the train and the baby was safely retrieved.
However, according to USA Today, an average of 38 infants die in hot cars each year. So, to help any out-of-routine parents out there, we’ve compiled a list of tips for remembering kids, and even pets, in a hot car.
Utilize technology. Smartphone apps such as Precious Cargo ask if you have kids, pets, or even perishable groceries when you start your car. When you turn your car off, the app then sends you an alert.
Put a cell phone, wallet, or purse in the rear seats with your child to increase your chances of checking the backseat before you leave.
Put something in the front seat, like a stuffed animal, to remind you to check the backseat. You can also put a Post It note on your steering wheel or somewhere on your dash reminding you to check the back.
Life happens, so be sure to have a safeguard plan in place for any situation involving young children. Be sure to also come visit us at Crawford Buick GMC for our newest lineup of cars, trucks, vans, and SUVs.

Recently, Buick announced plans to integrate Apple CarPlay and Android Auto into its 2016 Buick Regal and 2016 Buick LaCrosse models, which will be available later this year. This addition will enable drivers to utilize the amenities found on a smart phone, such as navigation, safely sending and receiving messages, making calls, and listening to music, with integration through the vehicle’s 8-inch touchscreen display.
These models will also be equipped with OnStar 4G LTE for WiFi hotspot support.
“For most of us, our smartphones are essential,” said Mary Barra, CEO of General Motors. “Partnering with Apple and Google to offer CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility across the widest range of models in the industry is a great example of how Chevrolet continues to democratize technology that’s important to our customers.”

Because the safety of you and your family is so important to us, we want to ensure that you are properly selecting and installing your child’s car seat. Here are some car seat safety tips that will ensure your car seat is installed correctly, keeping your children safe.
Choose the right car seat. The amount of car seat options you have are endless, so it’s important to do your research before you purchase one. There are many ratings out there that can help you choose the best seat possible. Also, keep in mind that age and size recommendations vary. If you have a five-year-old, you shouldn’t place them in a rear-facing car seat. Instead, follow this general guide to keep your child safe.
Install your car seat correctly. It is surprising how often car seats are installed improperly. When a car seat is installed incorrectly, this puts your child’s life in jeopardy. To ensure your vehicle is proper installed, make sure you read the seat’s instruction manual and the portion of your vehicle’s owner manual on car seat installation. Each car seat should be installed using your vehicle’s LATCH system, ensuring that your child’s seat won’t go flying if there’s an accident. Also, make sure your car seat is in the back seat. To double-check whether or not your car seat is installed properly, take it to a trained Child Passenger Safety Technician. You can find your local technician here.
Register your car seat. Registering your car seat is a great way to make sure it meets all of the Federal Safety Standards. Just like cars, car seats can also be recalled—by registering, you will receive a notification of any recalls for your safety seats.
Following these car seat safety tips will make sure that your children stay safe whenever they enter a car. Do you have any car seat safety tips you would like to share with Crawford Buick GMC? Share them with us below.
We’ve all heard of AT&T’s “It Can Wait” campaign, which aims to eliminate the act of texting and driving. Now, AT&T has introduced a hashtag (#X) meant to help young drivers notify their friends and family when they’re about to drive.
Basically, texting #X to your friends and family pauses a text conversation and lets others know you’re about to get behind the wheel and will respond to texts once you arrive. The text is a simple way to send a message that will let people know why you aren’t responding right away.
AT&T’s “It Can Wait” website is engaging and fun. It allows users to create gif memes of ridiculous messages they’ve received from behind the wheel, see all of the celebrities on Twitter who have posted the hashtag, watch informative videos, and take a pledge to abstain from texting and driving. A variety of public figures – from singer Tim McGraw to the Arkansas Attorney General have gotten behind the movement and tweeted the tag.
The “It Can Wait” campaign has changed the way we think about texting and driving. We find it highly unlikely that anyone can pick up their phone in the car without that small, but powerful phrase popping into their head. It really can wait.
Here at Crawford Buick GMC, we offer a variety of cars that make it possible to stay connected while your phone stays safely tucked away. Join over 5 million other people at www.itcanwait.com and take the pledge – then stop by and find a car that will help you keep your promise.
The weather is warm, the sun is shining, and school is out for the summer: yes, summer travel season has arrived. Before you pack up your family hauler this vacation season, ask yourself, is this vehicle safe enough to carry my precious cargo to our destination? Well, if you’re driving any of the five current Buick models, the answer is yes. Recently the 2013 Encore earned an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety 2013 Top Safety Pick, which means all five models in the brand’s showroom now share this distinction.
To earn a Top Safety Pick nod a vehicle must score the highest rating possible in all four tests performed on it. In addition to an IIHS Top Safety Pick, the 2013 Encore also received a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration. New for the 2013 model year, Encore is a compact luxury crossover with high efficiency in a smaller package.
“Safety is a top priority in Buick’s product renaissance, as evidenced by receiving these latest safety accolades for Encore,” said Gay Kent, GM executive director of Vehicle Safety. “Our customers can have confidence in the safety performance of every Buick for sale today.”
