Production is Underway on 2013 GMC Sierra HD Bi-Fuel Pickup Truck

Vortec engineWhile the typical heavy duty truck driver may not have a lot in common with a hybrid car driver, we can all appreciate fewer trips to the gas station for fill ups. To help extend your miles on the road, GMC has begun production on the new 2013 Sierra 2500 HD bi-fuel pickup truck, a truck with an engine capable of running on gasoline or compressed natural gas.

The Sierra 2500 HD, along with its counterpart, the Silverado HD, features a Vortec 6.0-liter engine that can seamlessly switch between the gasoline and compressed natural gas system without affecting performance. With both fuel types combines, the Sierra HD is able to travel a range of 650 miles before the need to refuel arises.

“Customers are choosing our bi-fuel trucks because they provide the same high level of GM truck performance and versatility but can also help businesses control their fuel costs and reduce their carbon footprint,” said Ed Peper, General Motors U.S. vice president of Fleet and Commercial Sales.

As is the case with the original Sierra pickup line, the Sierra 2500 HD bi-fuel pickup in available in a variety of configurations. Drivers can choose between standard and long-box, as well as have the choice of either two-or-four wheel drive in the extended cab models.
